You Are Safe Now: 30 Years of Saving Great Apes

The You Are Safe Now video is a perfect example of multi-purposing content to meet varying communication needs and audiences.

Initially a film was needed to represent Ape Action Africa at the Zoo Aquarium Conservation Conference 2024 for a feature “Movie Night”. GLOBIO was notified with less that two weeks to submission deadline.

With such a tight deadline and no available script or storyboard we offered to re-edit a video done three-years earlier and add updated material from B-roll. The final video needed to be at least 5 mins long but not to exceed 7 minutes. The original video was over 8 minutes.

The project took eight days to complete: four days scrubbing the original project file, identifying B-roll and content getting sign off from the U.S. support nonprofit, Friends of Ape Action Africa, who would be sponsoring the showing. After multiple forth and backs to save time it was decided to save the original storytelling structure and build with all new material. The final video was an 85% reconstruction with new B-roll.

Subsequently, both the UK and the USA fundraising arms wanted to use the video via direct email outreach to their donors as an explainer/awareness style video before the beginning of the fundraising season. The video was modified in both the in-video text and final call to action based on country location.

Filming was all original material shot by GLOBIO on previous filming trips at the sanctuary in Cameroon, the most recent in February 2024.
